Community Content Disclaimer

Last updated: 21/08/2026

In short

Anything posted, uploaded, or discussed by members — in the forums, the resource library, or private rooms — comes from that member, not from Build The Backup or its operator. We don't write it, vet it, endorse it, or guarantee it's accurate, safe, or legal to follow. Use your own judgment, especially for anything touching safety, medical care, or the law. However, this is a community for sharing knowledge. No sexual content, anywhere on the platform. Illegal content can get removed without notice.

01

User-generated content, generally

Build The Backup is a members' community. Most of what appears inside it — forum posts, replies, library uploads, links, file descriptions, directory listings, and messages in private rooms — is written, uploaded, or shared directly by members, not by the operator of this site ("we," "us," "the community").

We do not review, fact-check, edit, or approve member content before it's posted or uploaded. A member's post, file, or message reflects that member's own views, research, and judgment — not ours. Nothing a member posts should be read as coming from, endorsed by, or representing the views of the site, its operator, or its staff, including any admin account.

02

Content rules

Every member agrees to these two rules when creating an account, before payment:

These are baseline rules, not a complete moderation policy — we may remove other content or restrict an account at our discretion if it's genuinely causing harm, even if it isn't explicitly listed here.

03

Forum posts & discussions

Forum content is member opinion and experience-sharing, not verified fact. Two members can post contradictory advice in the same room; that's normal for a community like this, not an error on our part. Before acting on anything discussed here — particularly around communications equipment, off-grid power, water treatment, or medical preparedness — verify it independently against a qualified source.

04

Library uploads (PDFs, guides, links, videos)

Files and links in the resource library are submitted by members. We do not screen uploaded files for accuracy, safety, malware, or copyright status before they're available to other members. By uploading, a member represents that they have the right to share that file or link and that they aren't knowingly distributing something harmful, infringing, or illegal — but we cannot independently verify that claim for every upload.

If you download and use something from the library — a checklist, a guide, a piece of software, a linked resource — you're relying on it at your own judgment and risk, the same as anything else found on the internet.

05

Private encrypted rooms

Messages in private rooms are encrypted before they leave a member's device. We cannot read them, and we do not moderate them — not because we choose not to, but because we technically can't. Whatever is discussed in a private room is entirely between the members in that room. We have no visibility into it, no ability to review it, and no practical way to intervene in it, and bear no responsibility for its content.

06

Not medical, legal, or emergency advice

Nothing on this site or shared by its members — including the free preparedness checklist, forum discussions, or library materials — is medical, legal, financial, or emergency advice. It is not a substitute for consulting a qualified professional, and it is not a substitute for calling emergency services in an actual emergency. Use your own judgment, and when in doubt, consult someone qualified in the relevant field.

07

No endorsement

The presence of a post, file, link, or product mention in this community is not an endorsement by Build The Backup. We don't vet member businesses, products, or services referenced in forum posts, directory listings, or the "what I can offer" descriptions members write about themselves.

08

Reporting content

If you believe something posted or uploaded by a member is harmful, infringing, or otherwise violates community expectations, please contact the admin via email: buildthebackup@protonmail.com. We can remove content and, where appropriate, restrict a member's ability to post or upload further — but we cannot retroactively verify or guarantee the accuracy of content before removal is requested.

09

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Build The Backup and its operator are not liable for any loss, injury, or damage arising from content posted, uploaded, or shared by members, or from any action taken in reliance on that content. This includes, without limitation, forum posts, library uploads and links, directory listings, and anything discussed in private rooms.
